If you’re searching for affordable earbuds with premium features, chances are you’ve come across the Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 NC. They’ve been hyped across YouTube, tech blogs, and forums. But do they live up to the praise? After using them daily for work, gym, commuting, and casual listening, here’s my honest review as an unbiased user.
Sound Quality
Out of the box, I was a little underwhelmed by the default tuning. The bass felt heavy, almost too much for my taste. But once I ran through the HearID customization in the Soundcore app, everything changed. The app tailors the sound profile to your ears and lets you fine-tune EQ settings with dozens of presets. With my custom EQ, the Liberty 4 NC absolutely shine. The clarity, separation, and punchy bass feel premium, and they easily outperform many competitors in the same price bracket.
I own the Liberty 3 Pro and while that set has dual drivers, the difference isn’t dramatic unless you’re doing a direct A/B test. Considering the Liberty 4 NC use a single driver setup, their performance is impressive. For everyday listening across genres like EDM, pop, rock, and podcasts, I’d rate the sound 5/5.
Comfort & Fit
These earbuds are smaller and lighter than the Liberty 3 Pro, which makes them more comfortable for long sessions. I’ve worn them for hours while studying and during flights without ear fatigue. The box comes with multiple ear tip sizes, and the medium tips worked perfectly for me. Fit is always subjective, but for my ears they’re secure enough for gym workouts and runs. Comfort rating: 4/5.
Active Noise Cancelling (ANC)
Noise cancellation is where the Liberty 4 NC really surprised me. In quiet study environments and noisy cafes, they blocked out distractions almost as effectively as my Sony WF-1000XM4 (which cost nearly three times more). SoundGuys and other reviewers even rank these above some newer flagship earbuds. For commuting or travel, the ANC is a standout feature. I’d give it a solid 5/5.
Transparency Mode
Unfortunately, this is the weakest area. The transparency mode works but sounds muffled compared to competitors like Apple AirPods Pro. It’s usable for quick conversations or crossing the street, but not the most natural. Rating: 2/5.
Microphone Quality
Call quality has been hit or miss. In quiet environments, people say I sound clear, but in windy or noisy spaces feedback varies. I’ve had both compliments and complaints, so I’ll average it out at 3/5.
Battery Life & Charging
Battery life is another highlight. I get close to 8 hours on a single charge with ANC on, and the case provides several recharges. Fast charging gives 4 hours of playback in just 10 minutes, and wireless Qi charging is supported. Compared to other true wireless earbuds, the Liberty 4 NC are among the best in battery performance. Rating: 5/5.
Features & App Support
These earbuds are packed with features you’d expect only in premium models:
- Multipoint connection (connect to two devices at once)
- LDAC codec for high-resolution audio
- Find My Buds in case you misplace them
- Customizable touch controls
- Wind reduction for outdoor listening
- 18-month warranty
The Soundcore app is one of the best companion apps I’ve used. From EQ control to ANC modes, it makes the earbuds feel much more versatile.
Value for Money
I’ve used other earbuds like the Samsung Buds 2 Pro, Mifo 7, and Beats Studio Buds. Across sound, comfort, and ANC, the Liberty 4 NC punch well above their price point. They may not dethrone Apple or Sony’s top models, but they get close enough that most people won’t feel the difference, especially considering the price gap.
Final Verdict
After more than a year of use, I can confidently say the Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 NC are one of the best value earbuds you can buy. They deliver fantastic sound, outstanding ANC, great comfort, and strong battery life, all wrapped in a stylish design. Yes, transparency mode and mic quality could be better, but these are minor trade-offs.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5 – Highly recommended.
If you’re considering an upgrade or your first pair of noise-cancelling earbuds, the Liberty 4 NC should be on your shortlist.
